Landfill Leachate Evaporation
Issue: Leachate containment pond volume reduction
Solutions: Evaporation system using Spraystream Cannon and submersible pump
Product Used: Spraystream S7.5 Cannon with submersible high flow pump system
Project Overview:
Leachate Containment – reduce the volume of leachate in a large containment pond. High Quality, a prominent landfill and quarry operation, faced ongoing challenges with rising leachate levels in a large containment pond. Increasing environmental and regulatory pressures, combined with periods of high rainfall and limited onsite treatment capacity, created the need for a reliable and sustainable solution. The client wanted to test the effectiveness of the system before committing to long-term infrastructure.
biOx Solution:
biOx implemented a tailored evaporation strategy using a Spraystream S7.5 Cannon adapted specifically for leachate dispersal. The system atomised the leachate into a fine mist, promoting rapid evaporation during dry, warm, and windy conditions.
Key Elements of the Setup:
- Existing cannon pump bypassed in favour of a higher flow submersible pump system
- Submersible pump located approximately 25 metres into the pond and secured for stability
- Direct supply of leachate into the nozzle ring using flexi-flat hose
Results:
Within the first 30 days, the leachate level in the pond dropped by three visual markers on the containment wall. This achieved an estimated evaporation effectiveness rate of between 35% and 60%, depending on weather conditions throughout the testing period.
Ongoing Support:
Following the successful trial, the client committed to a long-term hire before purchasing a complete system.

Air Odour Control Systems | Odour Suppression
Rather than masking odours, our products encapsulate or eliminate the odours before they move off-site. Our fogging solutions use less water than the medium pressure misting systems, so we only use high pressure fogging solutions for odour control or it becomes too costly and inefficient. We have provided close to one hundred odour control systems throughout New Zealand and Australia. We have the experience and know-how to provide you with a solution to your environmental challenges. Recently we have been involved with some high profile odour suppression projects in Auckland with the Inner City Rail Link Project; private residential developments in Christchurch; and the Melbourne Regional Landfill in Victoria. We can get a unit to you quickly to solve any unforeseen odour problems! Check out our hire page to see what we have to offer… Not sure which product and solution would suit your situation best? Cleaner Air. Smarter Solutions. Lasting Relationships.
For more than 20 years, biOx Environmental has set the benchmark in dust and odour control technology across industries worldwide. We don’t just build systems — we craft tailor-made environmental solutions that last, backed by a family business ethos where every client becomes a long-term partner.
Cannons
biOx’s Spraystream cannons provide versatile fogging with easy manoeuvrability. Each cannon has fogging and misting nozzles in a stainless-steel ring at one end of a fibreglass barrel, and a high-speed composite fan at the other end accelerates airflow. This produces a fine, micron-sized droplet plume reaching 20–75 meters. The fibreglass construction prevents corrosion, and top-quality components from Siemens, ACC, Cat, and Grundfos ensure reliable performance.
Fixed Line
biOx’s Fixed Line systems deliver efficient fogging through high-pressure, low-volume nozzles. These nozzles emit a dense fog approximately 3 meters from the source, creating an effective barrier against dust and odours. The system can be installed directly at the dust or odour source or positioned overhead or around the periphery of a site, providing a cleaner, safer working environment while maintaining operational flexibility.
Jet zone
biOx’s Jet-Zone system is designed for dust suppression in high-impact areas such as crushers or shredders. The system generates a fine mist that captures and suppresses airborne dust at the point of generation. It is also adaptable for mobile operations, offering targeted dust control across moving equipment. The design ensures consistent performance even in demanding industrial environments.
