Issue: Leachate containment pond volume reduction
Solutions: Evaporation system using Spraystream Cannon and submersible pump
Product Used: Spraystream S7.5 Cannon with submersible high flow pump system
Project Overview:
Leachate Containment – reduce the volume of leachate in a large containment pond. High Quality, a prominent landfill and quarry operation, faced ongoing challenges with rising leachate levels in a large containment pond. Increasing environmental and regulatory pressures, combined with periods of high rainfall and limited onsite treatment capacity, created the need for a reliable and sustainable solution. The client wanted to test the effectiveness of the system before committing to long-term infrastructure.
biOx Solution:
biOx implemented a tailored evaporation strategy using a Spraystream S7.5 Cannon adapted specifically for leachate dispersal. The system atomised the leachate into a fine mist, promoting rapid evaporation during dry, warm, and windy conditions.
Key Elements of the Setup:
- Existing cannon pump bypassed in favour of a higher flow submersible pump system
- Submersible pump located approximately 25 metres into the pond and secured for stability
- Direct supply of leachate into the nozzle ring using flexi-flat hose
Results:
Within the first 30 days, the leachate level in the pond dropped by three visual markers on the containment wall. This achieved an estimated evaporation effectiveness rate of between 35% and 60%, depending on weather conditions throughout the testing period.
Ongoing Support:
Following the successful trial, the client committed to a long-term hire before purchasing a complete system.
