Issue: Peak Temperatures affecting Cow Comfort and Milk Production
Solutions: Misting line around the feedpad and milking shed
Product Used: 30 High Pressure fogging nozzles around the pad and into milking shed
Project Overview:
Following a demonstration and NZ Dairy Expo, a Waikato Dariy Farmer was interested in improving conditions for milking, Cow's prefer a cooler ambient temperature, and if overheating occurs, milk production can decrease. biOx introduced the concept of outdoor fogging, to condition the air temperature around the milking shed to improve milk production.
biOx Solution:
biOx implemented a tailored and small, cost-effective solution with 30x high pressure nozzles, and small fogging pump and controller that can operate during milking in both morning, but predominantly afternoon milking.
Key Elements of the Setup:
- Nozzles situated around existing structures
- Submersible pump located away from wet area of the misting shed, outside the main processing area for easy access.
- Nozzles were used outdoors and into the inside of the hairbone milking shed.
Results:
Very happy client. Her words follow:
"you can see from our video, the cows love the mist spray, we don't have to worry about mastitis as the cows don't come in dripping wet as if you were hosing them down. We love it and we think the cows do too."
Ongoing Support:
The client has made mention that her husband is looking to extend the misting inside the milking shed for cooling this coming summer. He likes the reduction in temperature which he wants to benefit from, not just the cows!
