Case Study – Leachate Evaporation in Australia
3 June 2026Issue: Dust and Odour from curbside collection disposal in inner city location
Solutions: Fixed Line Fogging System
Product Used: 4-zone Multizone Fixed Line with Odour Dosing Pump
Project Overview:
The Cass Street Transfer Station is situated in the centre of Christchurch's CBD and receives industrial and commercial waste from surrounding suburbs. The newly acquired site manager contacted biOx after discussion with Worksafe, to implement a system to improve working conditions.
biOx Solution:
After a needs analysis, biOx set to work designing a custom system that would provide misting to all the areas producing fugitive dust. Installation of the first 4 zone system was completed in 2017. A second system with 2 zones was installed in 2022 to expand the area of suppression. The systems have ongoing service and maintenance to ensure trouble free dust suppression for the past 8 years.
Odour from the site was addressed by the addition of an odour dosing set up in 2023 to the existing design a low cost. The high-pressure low volume nozzles mean that odour concentrate uses are limited, and only used as various parts of the system (zones) are activated.
Results:
Airborne dust is effectively suppressed throughout the site
Safety of workers has been greatly improved
Worksafe approved solution
The high-pressure fogging approach has proven reliable, keeping dust under control without compromising production.
Ongoing Support:
biOx perform scheduled servicing and maintenance of the system. A fire at the facility required the reinstallation of some of the high pressure lines, at low cost, showing the versatility of the solution for the client.
